General Overview: This water-based refractory coating is noncombustible. Use extinguishing media appropriate to the surrounding
fire. Extinguishing Media: N/A. Unusual Fire and Explosive Hazards: See additional notes Fire Fighting Equipment: N/A
Section V - Reactivity Data
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur
Stability: This refractory coating is stable under all normal conditions of storage. Hazardous polymerization will not occur.
Incompatibility: Compatible with most materials. As a good practice, do not mix the paint with any other materials.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Thermal decomposition products are predominantly water.
Section VI - Health Hazard Data, Toxicity Data
Emergency overview: Nearly odorless brown colored nonflammable water-based paint. Mildly caustic. Exposure to the eyes may be
corrosive and exposure to skin may be irritating. Inhalation of paint mist may be irritating to the respiratory tract. Primary Route(s) of
Exposure: Contact to eyes and skin, inhalation of paint dust. Carcinogenicity: None Target Organs: Eyes, skin and respiratory system.
Eye: Corrosive burns. Skin Contact: Mild skin irritation. Skin Absorption: N/A. Ingestion: Irritation, possible injury to gastrointestinal tract.
Inhalation: Irritation to upper respiratory system. Health Hazards (Acute and Chronic): Acute: Paint is mildly caustic (pH above 7) and is
corrosive to the eyes on contact, and irritating to the skin on prolonged contact. Mists from the product generated by air-spraying is
irritating to the upper respiratory system. Chronic: Excessive inhalation of dust above TLV of dried material over long periods of time
may cause industrial bronchitis, reduced breathing capacity and lead to increased susceptibility to lung disease.

Section VII: First Aid Measures
Eyes: Flush eyes, including under the eyelids, with large amounts of water. If irritation persists, seek medical
attention. Skin: Wash thoroughly with mild soap and water. Ingestion: Give copious amounts of water or prefer-
ably milk and seek medical attention. Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Seek medical attention if symptoms
persist.
Section VIII: Precautions for Safe Handling and Use
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED: Contain the spill by using a mineral
absorbent. The paint can be neutralized using a mildly acidic liquid such as vinegar. Cleanup personnel should
wear rubber gloves, goggles and protective overclothing to prevent irritation from contact.
DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS: Consult Local, State and Federal regulations for compliance. The high pH and
liquid nature of this paint may restrict disposal options. Non-contaminated paint may be returned to the manu-
facturer for proper disposal. The dried paint generally does not exhibit any characteristic of a hazardous waste.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORING: Store in original container away from excessive
cold or heat. Do not store or use from metal containers since the paint may be corrosive to some metal contain-
ers. Practice good housekeeping. Note exposure controls and personal protection, (Section II and IX) before
using.
Section IX: Control Measures
SPRAY APPLICATIONS: For spray application use a NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator, goggles, rubber gloves,
and protective clothing.
VENTILATION: Provide adequate general ventilation and local ventilation to control mist/dusts below the TLV.
PERSONAL PROTECTION: Glasses, gloves and long sleeve clothing.
Section X: Toxicological Information:
Potassium Hydroxide: 5% total by weight, ORAL LD50: 365 mg/kg rat, DERMAL LD50: > 2000 mg/kg rabbit.
Section XI: Regulatory Information:
Potassium hydroxide component: (5% of total weight). Per 40CFR 302.4: reportable quantity 1000lbs. Superfund
Amendments and Reauthorization Act Title III, hazardous categories per 40 CFR 370.2. Health: Immediate
acute, Delayed chronic. Toxic substance control act (TSCA) status: The ingredients of this product are on the
TSCA inventory.
