HEALTH HAZARD DATA
The information given below is based on Trojan Insecticide unless otherwise stated.

A. HEALTH EFFECTS
Acute Swallowed: Not harmful. Tests on rats indicate this product is not harmful following a single
dose of the formulated product (LD50 2250 mg/kg [male], 2646 mg/kg [female])

Eye: Slight irritant Tests on rabbits indicate this product is a slight irritant. No risk phrase
is required according to NOHSC criteria

Skin: Not harmful through skin absorption (LD50 > 5000 mg/kg)
Slight irritant and may cause sensitisation by skin contact (R43). Tests on
rabbits and guinea pigs indicate this product is a slight irritant and may cause
sensitisation by skin contact.

Inhaled: Harmful by inhalation (R20). Tests on rats indicate this product is harmful by
inhalation (4 hour LC50 > 2.72 mg/kg [males] and 2.54 mg/kg [females]). Inhalation of
vapour is negligible because of low vapour pressure, but inhalation of spray mist
must be avoided.

Chronic (active ingredient)
Gamma-cyhalothrin and its related isomeric forms, cyhalothrin and lambda-cyhalothrin, technical have been tested in mammals
and test-tube systems. No evidence of mutagenic, carcinogenic, neurotoxic or teratogenic effects were observed. No adverse
reproductive effects are expected for gamma-cyhalothrin in animal tests at maternal non-toxic doses (1.5 mg/kg/day). The
aromatic hydrocarbon solvent may cause central nervous system depression and narcosis.

Poisoning symptoms
Non-specific symptoms that may arise if the product is mishandled and overexposure occurs are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea,
abdominal pain, ataxia, unsteady gait, hyperexcitablity, salivation, tremors and incontinence. Larger doses
may cause convulsions and loss of consciousness. If the victim is uncoordinated there is a greater
likelihood of vomit entering the lungs and causing subsequent complications. Aspiration pneumonia
(inflammation of the lung) may result. Contact with the skin may result in slight irritation. May have a
degreasing action on the skin. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may lead to irritant dermatitis. May
cause tingling, burning, itching or numbness in exposed areas which can last up to 36 hours.

FIRST AI General: Consult The National Poisons Information Centre (Ph: 13 11 26) or a Doctor in every case of suspected
chemical poisoning. Never give fluids or induce vomiting if a patient is unconscious or convulsing regardless of
cause of injury. If breathing difficulties occur seek medical attention immediately.

Swallowed: Rinse mouth with water and give water to drink. If more than 15 minutes from a hospital induce vomiting
using IPECAC syrup or by tickling the back of the throat. Seek immediate medical assistance.
Skin: If skin contact occurs remove contaminated clothing and wash affected areas thoroughly with soap and
water. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.
Eyes: If product gets in eyes wash it out immediately with copious quantities of water for 15 minutes. See
medical advice.
Inhaled: Move person to fresh air and keep at rest until recovered. Remove any contaminated clothing and loosen
reaming clothing. Allow patient to assume the most comfortable position and keep warm. If breathing
laboured and patient cyanotic (blue) ensure airways are clear and have a qualified person give oxygen
through a face mask. If breathing has stooped, apply artificial respiration at once. In event of cardiac
arrest, apply external cardiac massage. Seek medical attention.

ADVICE TO DOCTO No specific antidote exists. Treat symptomatically.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
EXPOSURE STANDARDS
A time weighted average (TWA) concentration for an 8 hour day, and 5 day week has not been established by NOHSC for any
3
of the major ingredients in this product. There is a blanket limit of 10mg/m for dusts or mists when limits have not otherwise
been established. The nature of this product makes it unlikely that this level will be approached in normal use. The ADI
(Acceptable Daily Intake) for lambda-cyhalothrin is set at 0.001 mg/kg/day. The corresponding NOEL (No-observable-effect-
level) is set at 0.1 mg/kg/day. Values taken from Australian ADI List, April, 2002.

Dow AgroSciences Australia Limited Trojan Insecticide 16 January 2004
ENGINEERING CONTROLS
In industrial situations, concentrated values below the TWA value should be maintained. Values may be reduced by process
modification, use of local exhaust ventilation, capturing substances at the source, or other methods. If you believe airborne
concentrations of mists, dusts or vapours are high, you are advised to modify the process or environment to reduce the
problem.

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Packaging Storage and Transport. If a spill occurs avoid skin and eye contact. Wear overalls, safety glasses and impervious
gloves. If inhalation risk exists wear organic vapour respirator meeting the requirements of AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716.
Wash contaminated clothing and other protective equipment before storage or re-use. Always wash hands before smoking,
eating, drinking or using the toilet.

Preparation and use of product. Facial skin contact may cause temporary numbness. When using the product wear cotton
overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist. A washable hat and elbow-length PVC gloves, face shield and goggles. After use and
before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms and face thoroughly with soap and water. After each day??s use, wash
gloves, face shield or goggles and contaminated clothing.
