ROUTE EXPOSURE CHARACTERISTICS & FIRST AI Overexposure may cause headache, nasal and respiratory irritation,
nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, central nervous system depression
INHALATION and loss of consciousness. Dust from product may be irritating to
the respiratory system.
Aid: Move exposed person to fresh air. If breathing has stopped,
perform CPR. Get medical attention as soon as possible.
SKIN Exposure may cause drying, cracking, irritation or dermatitis. May
cause allergic reaction. Components may be absorbed through the
skin.
Aid: If clothing soaked, immediately remove clothing and wash skin
with soap and water. Launder clothing before wearing. Get medical
attention promptly.
EYES Exposure to vapor or liquid product may be irritating, and could
cause reddening, swelling, and tissue damage if not removed
immediately.
Aid: Immediately flush eyes with water for a minimum of 15
minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. Get medical
attention promptly.
SWALLOWING Aspiration hazard. Small amounts of the liquid aspirated into the
OR respiratory system during ingestion, or from vomiting, may cause
INGESTION bronchopneumonia or pulmonary edema. Ingestion may result in
irritation, headache, nausea, drowsiness, fatigue, central nervous
system depression, convulsions and loss of consciousness, coma
and death.
Aid: Call 911 and/or a physician immediately. Do not induce
vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

OVEREXPOSURE
No skin allergy due to butyl benzyl phthalate was observed in humans following
repeated exposures in controlled skin contact studies. Repeated ingestion of 2-
butoxyethanol may cause acute toxic effects, specifically damage to the red
blood cells. Absorption of 2-butoxyethanol by inhalation and/or repeated skin
contact may cause injury to liver, kidney and blood damage. 2-butoxyethanol is
considered fetotoxic and has caused toxic reproductive effects in laboratory
animals. The Chemical Manufacturers Association unexpectedly found acute
toxicity when isopropanol was administered to pregnant rabbits by gavage. One
component is listed as probably carcinogenic by NTP based upon a two year
ingestion study with the female rat. However, mice showed no increase in
tumors. Other effects in the rat are observed on repeated inhalation or ingestion
of butyl benzyl phthalate. Kidney damage and skin irritation have been cited in
the literature as possible from exposure to 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone. Worker
hearing loss with noise exposure reportly increased with simultaneous exposure
to n-butanol at 80 ppm for a period of years. Significant exposure to n-butyl

2
acetate may adversely affect people with chronic disease of the respiratory
system, skin and/or eyes. Ingestion of IPA has been reported to cause hemolytic
anemia, kidney failure, decreased blood pressure, decreased body temperature,
coma and death. Repeated skin contact with a compress soaked in IPA has been
reported to lead to coma following absorption through the skin. The coma may be
reversible.

5. FIRE AND EXPOSION DATA

may spread fire, use water spray only to cool containers
exposed to fire. If leak or spill has not ignited, use water
spray to disperse vapors.
Hazardous Incomplete combustion can yield carbon monoxide, various
Decomposition hydrocarbons, silicon dioxide, formaldehyde and various
Products other oxides of carbon and nitrogen. Any person breathing
fumes from burning nitrocellulose should be placed promptly
under a physician??s care.
Fire and Explosion Can form combustible mixtures with air when heated. Dry
Hazards product is also flammable.
Storage Store as OSHA Class III A combustible liquid.
Note: Product contains nitrocellulose which may facilitate combustion especially of dried
materials.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Spills Notify emergency response personnel. Evacuate area and remove ignition
sources. Shut off source of spill or leak if safe to do so. Ground equipment
and electrically bond transfer equipment together to eliminate sparking.
Contain spills with dikes or other appropriate measures, collect product and
place in suitable container for disposal. Pick up with inert non combustible
absorbent for disposal. Wear appropriate personnel protection ?? see section
8.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Do not breath vapor or dust from sample. Avoid elevated temperatures which could lead
to pressure buildup in sample. Vapors are flammable, and in sufficient concentration and
quantity will produce explosive mixtures. A sufficient quantity of dust from dried product
could form explosive mixtures in air. Product should be handled with adequate
ventilation to maintain air borne concentrations within the safe limits ?? see section 2.
Samples are preferably stored at ambient or cool temperatures in air tight non aluminum
containers. Bond all equipment when transferring product to avoid static discharge.
