HEALTH HAZAR ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS

SWALLOWE The liquid is discomforting and may be harmful if swallowed in quantity. Ingestion
may result in nausea, abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting. Consider an unlikely
route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.
EYE
The liquid is mildly discomforting to the eyes and is capable of causing a mild,
temporary redness of the conjunctiva (similar to wind-burn), temporary impairment
of vision and/or other transient eye damage/ulceration.

SKIN
The liquid is mildly discomf orting to the skin and is capable o f caus ing
skin reactions , which may lea d t o dermatitis from rep eated exp osures over
long periods.

INHALE Not normally a hazard due to non-volatile nature of product. Inhalation of vapour
is more likely at hi gher than no r mal temper at ures. The vapour fro m he ate d
material is moderately discomforting to the upper respiratory tract.

CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS
Principal routes of exposure are usually by skin contact/eye contact and possible
inhalation of vapour from heated material. Exposure to phthalates over years leads
to pain, numbness and spasms in the hands and feet. Many people have developed
multiple disorders in the nervous system and the balancing system. Levels of sex
hormones are reduced in women, leading to missed ovulations and miscarriages.
They also reduce sperm counts and fertility in men. They mimic certain
hormones and can damage the foetus. Phthalates are found in paints, ink and glues.
Hydrotech Ink FIRST AI
SWALLOWE DO NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, lean patient forward or place on left
side (head-down position, if possible) to maintain open airway and
prevent aspiration. Observe the patient carefully. Never give liquid to a person
showing signs of being sleepy or with reduce awareness; i.e. becoming
unconscious. Give water (or milk) to rinse out mouth, then provide liquid
slowly and as much as casualty can comfortably drink. Seek medical advice.

EYE
If this product comes in contact with eyes wash affected area with water. If
irritation continues, seek medical attention. Skilled personnel should
only undertake removal of contact lenses after an eye injury.

SKIN
If product comes in contact with the skin immediately remove all contaminated
clothing, including footwear. Wash affected areas thoroughly with water
(and soap if available). Seek medical attention in event of irritation.

INHALE If fumes or combustion products are inhaled remove to fresh air, lay patient down
and keep warm and rested. Prostheses such as false teeth, which may
block airway, should be removed, where possible, prior to initiating first aid
procedures. If breathing is shallow or has stopped, ensure clear
airway and apply resuscitation, preferably with a demand valve resuscitator,
bag-valve mask device, or pocket mask as trained. Perform CPR if necessary.
Transport to hospital, or doctor.

ADVICE TO DOCTO Treat symptomatically.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE_____ ____
EXPOSURE STANDARDS
None assigned. Refer to individual constituents.

EXPOSURE STANDARDS FOR MIXTURE
"Worst Case" computer-aided prediction of spray/mist or fume/dust components and
concentration:

Composite Exposure Standard for Mixture (TWA) (mg/m 3): mg/W.
Operations that produce a spray/mist or fume/dust, introduce particulates to the
breathing zone. If the breathing zone concentration of ANY of the components listed
below is exceeded, "Worst Case" considerations deem the individual to be
over overexposed.

Breathing Zone Mixture
ppm mg/m 3
Component Conc: (%)

diisononyl phthalate 5.0000 25.0

Hydrotech Ink INGREDIENT DATA

DIISOHEPTYL PHTHALATE:
No exposure limits set by NOHSC or ACGIH

DIISONONYL PHTHALATE:
No exposure limits set by NOHSC or ACGIH
CEL TWA: 5 mg/m 3; STEL: 10 mg/m3
(compare TLV-TWA: dioctyl phthalate)

ENGINEERING CONTROLS
None under normal operating conditions.OTHERWISE: If inhalation risk of
overexposure exists, wear SAA approved organic-vapour respirator.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

EYE
Safety glasses with side shields, or as required, chemical goggles. Contact
lenses pose a special hazard; soft lenses may absorb irritants and all lenses
concentrate them.

HANDS/FEET
Neoprene gloves. Natural rubber, butyl rubber and vinyl are not suitable
protective materials.

OTHE Overalls. Barrier Cream. Eye wash unit.
