Description:

Amur Cork-tree is the dried bark of Phellodendron chinensis Schneid. Or Phellodendron amurense Rupr. (Fam. Rutaceae). The former is commonly called Chuan huangbo and the latter called Guan huangbo. The drug is collected, removed from coarse bark, and dried in the sun.

Function:

1. To remove damp heat, quench fire, counteract toxicity and relieve consumptive fever.

2. Phellodendron bark is bitter in taste and cold in action. It reduces inflammation and dampness, especially from the lower parts of the body.

3. It has broad-spectrum anti-bacterial and anti-viral activity.

Application:

1. It is used against asthma, diarrhoea, cholera, verminosis and gastralgia dyspepsia.

2. It is used in lumbago, hysteria, dyspepsia and worm affection.

3. It is used as surfactant and used for washing hairs and fabrics.
