Vinpocetine is a derivative of the alkaloid Vincamine. Vincamine is found in the aerial part
of Vinca minor plant and can also be derived from other plant sources such as the Voacanga and Crioceras longiflorus.

Vinpocetine is a semisynthetic derivative alkaloid of vincamine, and also can be semisynthesized from
tabersonine, an extract from Voacanga Africana Seed.

Vincamine is produced through two chemical reactions beginning with the catalytic reduction of tabersonine, an alkaloid extract of Voacanga seeds. The resulting product, vincadiformine is oxidized forming vincamine.
