Description: the material shall consist of propineb together with related manufacturing impurities and shall be a white powder, free from visible extraneous matter and added modifying agents other than the added stabilisers and manufacturing aids.

Properties

Identity test: identity of the active constituent must be established by one or more of the following methods: spectroscopic tests (IR spectrum, NMR, mass spectra), Chromatography (HPLC or GC retention time with reference compound) or any other suitable test method.

Composition: Propineb active constituent is unstable and the stabiliser (hexamethylene tetramine) and processing aids are added; also active constituent is not isolated, the formulated product is produced in a continuous process.

Applications

Control of downy mildew, black rots, red fire disease, and grey mould on vines; scab and brown rot on apples and pears; leaf spot diseases on stone fruit; Alternaria and Phytophthora blights, downy mildew, Septoria leaf spot, and leaf mould in tomatoes; Phytophthora and Alternaria blight of potatoes; downy mildew (blue mould) on tobacco; rusts and leaf spot diseases on ornamentals; rusts, leaf spot diseases and downy mildews on vegetables. Also used on citrus fruit and berry fruit, rice and tea.
