Galantamine hydrobromide is a type of benzozepine derived from the bulbs and flowers of narcissus, osmanthus, or canna. It is also an oral cholinesterase inhibitor. As a ligand of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, it has been widely used to enhance neurocognitive function. Its role is to competitively and reversibly inhibit acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the concentration of acetylcholine. When absorbed into the bloodstream, galanthamine hydrobromide is easily absorbed into all parts of the body, including the brain. It binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, causing conformational changes and increasing acetylcholine release. It also works by competing and reversing the effects of cholinesterase inhibitors. By inhibiting cholinesterase, it prevents the decomposition of acetylcholine, thus increasing the level and duration of this powerful neurotransmitter. Galanthamine also improves learning and memory ability, prevents brain inflammation and maintains high levels of neurotransmitters by maintaining the integrity of neurons and synapses
