Introduction
Teicoplanin is an antibiotic used in the prophylaxis and treatment of serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, includingmethicillin resistant Staphylococcusaureus and Enterococcus faecalis . It is a semisynthetic glycopeptide antibiotic with a spectrum of activity similar to vancomycin. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Function
Teicoplanin is active against serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, including treatment failure by penicillin,cephalosporin or other class antibiotics,such as: skin and soft tissue infections respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infections, sepsis, endocarditis, bone and joint infections.
