<p> <em>Rhodiola rosea</em> ("golden root" or "roseroot") is widely distributed  at high altitudes in Arctic and mountainous regions throughout Europe and Asia.  It was named by Greek botanist Linnaeus because when cut the fresh root, people  can smell the perfume of roses. </p> <p _hozid="46"> Rhodiola characters cold in nature, sweet, bitter and astringent,  able to nourish one’s lung and clear away internal heat. Rhodiola is another  important environmentally-adaptable natural medicament after Panax and thorn  slender acanthopanax.(Unlike thorn slender acanthopanax which will cause  constipation and Panax which will cause excessive excitement, Rhodiola has  little noxious few side effect, so it has a promising future.) </p> <p _hozid="47"> With intensive research of pharmacological function and clinical  access, USSR sets Rhodiola as the sample of “adaptive element” in 1976. Since  then, Rhodiola has wildly been used to resist fatigue and caducity, enhance  mental and physical function and improve attention and memory. In addition, it  is clinically applied to treat neurasthenic and neurosis, hypertension,  high-amplitude propagated contractions, to perform as nervous excitant to  improve intelligence, ameliorate autonomic nerve-angiotasis handicap and  myasthenia, etc., to cure diseases caused by free radical proliferation, such as  tumor, radiation damage, emphysema, cataract and so on. It is regarded as  invigorator to treat impotence, and is used to treat special persons working in  special circumstances. </p> <p> <em>Rhodiola crenulata </em>SH. Fu is one species of <em>Rhodiola</em> sp. It  has a main content of Salidroside. </p>
