Chemical properties: 

Colorless or light yellow transparent liquid. Melting point 16.8℃, boiling point 114-115.5℃ (1.73kPa), 85-86℃ (0.4kPa), relative density 1.2199 (20/4℃), refractive index 1.4921, flash point 93℃. It is miscible with water, alcohol and ether.

Production method: 

acrylonitrile, thiourea as raw materials. First, thiourea was reacted with hydrochloric acid at 40℃ for 0.5h, then acrylonitrile was added to it at 110-113℃ for 3h, and then 4% sodium hydroxide solution was added to pH 11 at 40℃. After dehydrogenation for 4h, it was neutralized with hydrochloric acid at 30℃ to pH 1-2. Then add benzene to extract, recover benzene after vacuum distillation, collect 125-140℃ fraction to obtain the finished product. In addition, 3-mercaptopropionic acid can also be prepared by the reaction of hydrogen sulfide with pyruvate or β-propanolactone.
