Domperidone Description

Domperidone can be useful for treating nausea and vomiting due to many causes, including anti-cancer chemotherapy, general anaesthetics and in migraine. It can also used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused by medicines for Parkinson's disease, such as levodopa, pramipexole and apomorphine.

Domperidone Indications

1 1, Digestion dysfunction symptoms caused by delayed gastric emptying, gastroesophageal reflux, chronic gastritis and esophagitis including nausea, vomiting, belching, abdominal fullness, abdominal pain, regurgitation caused burning sensation of mouth and stomach.
2 2, Parkinson's disease and nausea and vomiting caused by various kinds of reasons such as functional, infection, dietary, radiotherapy or drug therapy and dopamine receptor agonists (such as levodopa, bromocriptine) therapy.
3 3, it is suitable for treating migraine, dysmenorrhea, traumatic brain injury and intracranial lesions, radiation therapy and the nausea and vomiting caused by levodopa, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
4 4, it is effective in treating the nausea and vomiting caused by various organic or functional gastrointestinal disorders in elderly people.
5 5, Domperidone is not effective in treating the vomiting caused by surgery or anesthesia and chemotherapy.

 

Do not take domperidone if you

  1. are allergic to domperidone or any ingredients of the medication
  2. are taking the medication ketoconazole
  3. are taking medications which cause QT prolongation
  4. have bleeding in the stomach or intestines
  5. have a blockage in the stomach or intestines
  6. have breaks in the lining of the stomach or intestines
  7. have a prolactinoma (a tumour of the pituitary gland)
  8. have uncorrected levels of potassium, magnesium, or calcium in your blood
  9. have cardiac disease (e.g., heart failure)
  10. have QT prolongation (a type of irregular heartbeat)
  11. have moderate or severe liver impairment

 

Important information about Domperidone

  • If this medicine is not controlling your symptoms you should let your doctor know. It is important that you do not exceed the prescribed dose.
  • If you faint, or feel like your heart is beating very fast or irregularly while you are taking this medicine, it is important to tell your doctor straight away.

  • People over 60 years of age.
  • People with decreased kidney function.
