Lincomycin is an antibiotic derived from cultures of the bacterium Streptomyces lincolnensis and used in the treatment of certain penicillin-resistant infections.

Lincomycin hydrochloride is a white or practically white, crystalline powder and is odorless or has a faint odor. Its solutions are acid and are dextrorotatory. Lincomycin hydrochloride is freely soluble in water; soluble in dimethylformamide and very slightly soluble in acetone.

It is narrow spectrum of antibiotics, the role and erythromycin similar to Gram-positive cocci have a better effect, especially for the anaerobic bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and pneumococcus are efficient.
