                Kitasamycin is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C40H67NO14, a multi-component macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces sp. The free base is for oral administration; the tartrate salt is for injection. Its salt is white or light yellow crystalline powder, odorless, bitter in taste and slightly hygroscopic.

Pharmacological action

Its antibacterial properties are similar to those of erythromycin, and it has a strong inhibitory effect on Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Viridans Streptococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Tetanus bacillus, Diphtheria bacillus, etc. It also has a considerable inhibitory effect on Gram-negative bacteria, such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Bacillus pertussis and other Gram-negative bacteria. In addition, it has inhibitory effect on Mycoplasma, Leptospira and Rickettsia. The characteristic of this product is that it is effective against most penicillin and erythromycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
