Vitamin K3 is essential for efficient blood-clotting and to maintain proper bone calcification.

Practically vitamin K3 assists in the treatment of haemorrhagic-tpye disease, namely coccidiosis. The lack of vitamin K3 in chicks infected with Eimeria species sharply increases the rate of mortality and this is true also in case of mild or subclinical infections. Vitamin K3 can also revent the haemrrhagic consequences brought about by the administration of sulpha drugs and antibiotics which, by suppressing the fermentation of intestinal bacterial flora reduce the endogenous bacterial syntheses of vitamin K3 as family citamin, sufficient adding of vitamin K3 in feed can raise the healthy level if animal especially stress condition.

Vitamin K, which is also called anti-hemorrhagic vitamin, is a derivative of menadione. It can be helpful in the acceleration of the synthesis of the prothrombin in order to accelerate the normal coagulation of blood. Vitamin K includes VK1, VK2, VK3, VK4, etc., among which VK3 is often used in feed addictives for the reason that its physiological function is to accelerate the blood coagulation. Animals who have no sufficient VK3 will suffer from mucosal muscle hemorrhage and the blood coagulation will be delayed.

The active component of VK3 is β -menadione whose stability is nevertheless feeble. During its application, β -menadione will thus be made into different β -menadione salts, the major products of which are Menadione Sodium Bisulfite and Menadione Nicotinamide Bisulfite.

MSB, whose chemical name is Sodium bisulfite menadione, is made from the chemical reaction between β -menadione and Sodium bisulfate. MNB is made from the chemical reaction between MSB and Nicotinamide, its products, in form of powder, have a color that can vary from white to light yellow. It is slightly soluble in the water. The chemical structure of MNB is more stable than that of MSB. When MNB is used in feed, the amount of Nicotinamide needed could be decreased at the same time.

MSB has diverse specifications such as MSB96, MSB65, etc. The former contains 50% of menadione and the latter 34% of it. In application, 1 gram of menadione equals 2 grams of MSB96.

MNB has diverse specifications such as MNB96 and MNB50 etc. The former contains 43.7% of menadione and the latter 22.8% of it. In application, 1 gram of menadione equals 2.3 grams of MNB96. The recommended amount of menadione in the formula feed for livestock is 1~5ppm, and that in the formula feed for aquatic animals is 2-16ppm.
