Description: Tetrachlorobenzoquinone, also known as tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone, tetrachloro-anthracene, proguanil and so on. The precipitated from acetic acid or acetone is a golden yellow flaky crystal, and the precipitated from benzene or toluene or sublimed is a monoclinic yellow columnar crystal. There is an unpleasant, persistent scent. Sublimation. Insoluble in water, hardly soluble in cold ethanol, cold petroleum ether, soluble in ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and carbon disulfide. Slowly dissolved in an alkaline solution, when present in the presence of air, a reddish brown to purple precipitate (tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone). It can be used as a non-systemic fungicide for the sterilization of seeds, grains, peanuts, vegetables, cotton and beans.
