Florfenicol is a novel broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the family of agents that includes also thiamphenicol and chloramphenicol. Florfenicol is a fluorinated derivative of thiamphenicol. Neither of them contents the nitro group and thus aplastic anemia is not associated with their administration. After intramuscular injection absorption is almost complete, with systemic availability of 78.5. Like chloramphenicol, florfenicol has a wide distribution in most tissues of the animal body. The elimination half-life is 2-4 hours. Most of the dose administered to cattle is excreted as the parent drug (64) in the urine. Florfenicol veterinary medicine to has been introduced into replace chloramphenicol.
