Details:

It is a white or off-white crystalline powder; it is odorless or almost odorless and has a slightly bitter taste. Slightly soluble in water, very slightly soluble in ethanol. The melting point is 188~192 °C, which has a good antibacterial effect on human tuberculosis bacillus. At pH 5~5.5, the bactericidal effect is the strongest. The antibacterial concentration in the human body is 12.5 μg/ml, and 50 μg/ml can kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The mechanism of action may be related to pyrazinic acid. Pyrazinamide penetrates into phagocytic cells and enters the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The amidase in the bacteria removes the amide group and converts it into pyrazine acid to exert an antibacterial effect. In addition, pyrazinamide is similar in chemical structure to nicotinamide, and interferes with dehydrogenase by substituting nicotinamide to prevent dehydrogenation, hindering the utilization of oxygen by tubercle bacilli, and affecting the normal metabolism of bacteria and causing death.
