Superiority:

Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic.It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. Doxycycline also selectively inhibits human matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) and MMP-13 over MMP-1 with 50, 60, and 5% inhibition, respectively, when used at a concentration of 30 μM. It can be used as a regulator for inducible gene expression systems where expression depends on either the presence (Tet-On) or absence (Tet-Off) of doxycycline.Formulations containing doxycycline have been used in the treatment of bacterial infections and the prevention of malaria.

A commonly-used broad-spectrum antibiotic. A potent inhibitor of MMP-8 (neutrophil collagenase; IC50 = 30 µM) relative to MMP-1 (interstitial collagenase; IC50 = 300 µM). Also inhibits collagen synthesis by bovine articular chondrocytes cultured in alginate (IC50 = 25 µM). Inhibits nitric oxide synthesis by LPS-activated macrophages without affecting IL-10 release.

Doxycycline Hyclate, also called doxycycline is an antimicrobial tetracycline that acts as an inhibitor of a wide range of matrix metalloproteinases. Doxycycline Hyclate has been observed to significantly decrease the levels and activity of metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in corneal erosion studies. Rheumatoid arthriitis studies indicate that Doxycycline Hyclate can block the degradation of type II collagen, and not type I collagen, as well as down regulate the expression levels and activity of MMP-8. Reports suggest that Doxycycline Hyclate blocks collagen activity and in smooth muscle studies increases smooth muscle cell adhesion, and changes the reorganization of fibrillar collagen matrices and cell migration. Additionally, Doxycycline Hyclate has been observed to alter the expression of apicoplast genes in Plasmodium falciparum, and inhibit tissue formation in rat tissue studies. Doxycycline Hyclate is also known as Doxycycline hydrochloride hemiethanolate hemihydrate, Atridox, α-6-Deoxy-5-hydroxytetracycline, and (4S,4aR,5S,5aR,6R,12aS)-4-(Dimethylamino)- 3,5,10,12,12a-pentahydroxy- 6-methyl- 1,11-dioxo- 1,4,4a,5,5a,6,11,12a-octahydrotetracene- 2-carboxamide hydrochloride hemiethanolate hemihydrate.
