Bupivacaine hydrochloride is a long-acting local anesthetic of the amide type, its anesthesia time is 2 to 3 times longer than that of lidocaine hydrochloride, and its dispersion is similar to that of lidocaine hydrochloride. It has little effect on circulation and breathing, no irritation to tissues, and no methemoglobinemia. Common dosages have no effect on cardiovascular function. Large dosages can cause blood pressure to drop and heart rate to slow down. There is no obvious rapid tolerance.
