Pregabalin is an analogue of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), similar in structure and function to gabapentin, and has antiepileptic, analgesic and anxiolytic activities. The antiepileptic mechanism of pregabalin is still unclear. In laboratory studies, pregabalin has anticonvulsant activity on various epilepsy models; the activity spectrum of animal models is similar to that of gabapentin, but the activity of pregabalin is 3-10 times that of gabapentin.
