Promethazine can competitively block histamine HL receptor and produce antihistamine effect. It can resist histamine induced telangiectasia, reduce its permeability and relieve asthmatic caused by bronchial smooth muscle contraction. Its effect is stronger and longer than that of diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Because it is easy to enter into brain tissue, it has obvious sedative effect;

it can strengthen the central inhibitory effect of hypnotics, analgesics and anesthetics; it also has strong anticholinergic effect, and has better effect in preventing and treating motion sickness.
