Bile acid is an important component of bile and plays an important role in fat metabolism. Bile acidsare mainly found in the enterohepatic circulatory system and play a protective role through recycling. Only a small portion of bile acids enters the peripheral circulation.

Function

1. Promote digestion and absorption of lipids

Bile acid contains both hydrophilic hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, as well as hydrophobic methyl and hydrocarbon cores. At the same time, the spatial coordination of hydroxyl and carboxyl groups is all alpha, so the main configuration of bile acid has both hydrophilic and hydrophobic sides. Tension to promote lipid emulsification.

2.Inhibit the precipitation of cholesterol in the bile (calculus)

Bile acid also prevents gallstone formation. Cholesterol is difficult to dissolve in water. When bile is discharged into the gallbladder for storage, bile is concentrated in the gallbladder, and cholesterol is easily precipitated, but because bile contains bile acid salts and lecithin, cholesterol can be dispersed to form soluble micelles, which is difficult to precipitate and form stones .
