Tilmicosin phosphate is a semisynthetic macrolide antibiotic salt derivative prepared by chemical modification of desmycosil. It is used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease and ovine respiratory disease associated with Mannheimia (Pasteurella) haemolytica, Tilmicosin has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
Tilmicosin phosphate is a salt of the semi-synthetic antibiotic derivative of desmycosin (tylosin B), a minor co-metabolite of tylosin, prepared by mixing the active tilmicosin with phosphoric acid to provide improved solubility and enhanced pharmacokinetics. Tilmicosin is a broad sepctrum antibiotic, providing good protection against Pasteurella in livestock.
Tilmicosin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. It prevents the growth of M. haemolytica, P. multocida, and E. coli with MIC values of 2-4 µM and is commonly used against respiratory infections in swine and cattle.
