Application of carbomer 940/980 in cosmetics

Carbomer 980 and 940 are new polymerized acrylate materials developed by the company after acrylic separation adhesive. Because of their good thickening, emulsifying, suspension and good diaphaneity, they are widely used in skin care cream, hand washing gel, sunscreen products, alcohol free perfume and hair care products.

Carbomer is a kind of white loose powder. It is slightly acidic and soluble in water, forming a gel. It can produce high efficiency thickening at a very low dosage (conventional dosage 0.2-1%), thus preparing emulsion, cream, gel and transdermal preparations with wide viscosity range and different rheology. The pH is usually 2.5-4.0 according to the concentration. When using, it is usually necessary to add neutralizer to adjust the pH to near neutral. Different carbomer properties are slightly different. Compared with 940, Carbomer 980 has larger molecules. Under different concentrations, temperatures, pH values and other conditions, their viscosity and rheological changes are also different, and their ionic resistance and shear resistance are also different.

Carbomer gel applied to skin care products

In addition to the above physical and chemical differences, Carbomer 980 and 940 are also different in application, such as in skin care emulsion or gel:

1. Carbomer 980 is less elastic under the dynamic vibration of stress, but 940 is easier to apply evenly.

2. When ions exist or concentration increases, 980 and 940 have little effect on transparency, but 980 has higher ion resistance than 940, so 980 can provide relatively higher viscosity and yield value when ions increase.

3. The skin feeling caused by different carbomer is different. 980 has slight elasticity at the initial application, and the skin feels moist and smooth. It is suitable for medium or rich formula, and it is not sticky after use; 940 has a clear skin feeling and is suitable for refreshing formula.
