β-brominated benzene ethane is an important intermediate for the synthesis of high-efficiency bromine flame retardant polybrominated styrene, and is also commonly used in the preparation of organic synthetic intermediates. For example β-brominated benzene can be used to prepare Prenste intermediate 4-(4-phenybutyl) benzoic acid. Prenst, an anti-asthma drug, was first developed by Japan's Ono Corporation and launched in Japan in 1995 and was found to treat allergic rhinitis in 1999. Prenste is a white triene C4/D4 receptor antagonist (lTRAs), very low toxicity, it can selectively inhibit the activity of airway smooth muscle white triene polysurgen, almost no effect on peanut tetraoleic acid metabolism enzyme, while acetylcholine, 5-serotonin and other antagonistic effects, lTC4, lTD4, lTE4 and so on have significant inhibition.

Chemically colorless liquid. Melting point -56 degrees C, boiling point 220-221 degrees C, 217-218 degrees C (97.62kPa), 92 degrees C (1.46 kPa), relative density 1.3589, refractive index 1.5572. Can be mixed with ether, benzene, insoluble in water. Flash point 89 degrees C.
