L-valine is white monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder, and it is colorless plate or scaly crystal when it is re-cleaned with ethanol aqueous solution. Odorless, with a special bitter taste. Melting point is about 315℃. The PH Chemicalbook of 5% aqueous solution is 5.5~7.0. Stable to heat, light and air. Soluble in water (8.85g/ 100mL, 25℃), almost insoluble in ethanol and ether. It is difficult to separate from leucine. It is an essential amino acid.

L-valine is one of the branched chain amino acids (BCAA), which cannot be synthesized by animals themselves and must be taken from diets to meet their nutritional needs. Therefore, l-valine is an essential amino acid.
