Adenine (formerly vitamin B4) is a purine that has many biochemical functions. In cellular respiration, it acts in the form of energy-rich adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and cofactors such as Chemicalbook nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD).
