Ceftiofur sodium is an organic compound with the molecular formula C19H17N5O7S3 and is a white to light yellow powder.  Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in acetone, almost insoluble in ethanol.  Are antimicrobial agents.  Cephalosporins are semi - synthetic third - generation animal cephalosporins.  Sodium salt and hydrochloride are prepared for injection.

It has broad - spectrum bactericidal action and is positive to Gram. Both gram-negative and lactamase producing strains were effective. Sensitive bacteria pasteurella, Actinobacillus, Salmonella, streptococcus, staphylococcus and so on. The antibacterial activity was stronger than ampicillin, and the activity against streptococcus was stronger than quinolones. Pathogenic bacteria were isolated from cattle respiratory disease materials, and their M1C90 were: Pasteurella haemorrhagic ≤0.06 (0.03-0.13), Pasteurella polycide ≤0.06 (0.03-0.25), Haemophilus sleeping ≤0.06 (0.03-0.13), which were highly sensitive. Bordetella bronchitis is resistant to this drug. MIC90 for porcine pathogens were actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae ≤0.03, Pasteurella multocida ≤0.03, Pasteurella multocida ≤0.03, Salmonella cholerae ≤01.0, Salmonella typhimurium 2.0, escherichia coli 1.0.
