Timicosin (molecular weight 869.15) is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotics for livestock and poultry developed in 1980s.  Tylobactin is reacted with 3, 5-dimethylpiperidine to form timicocine, which is a mixture of cis and trans isomers by adding phosphoric acid and water.  Temicocin is a product with good activity obtained by amination of aldehyde group after deglycosylation of tylosin. This amination reaction uses Wallach reaction with formic acid as catalyst, and temicocin with high yield can be obtained.
 It is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of livestock pneumonia (caused by actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella, mycoplasma and other infections), avian mycoplasma disease and mastitis of lactating animals.
