What is Chloroquine phosphate？
Chloroquine phosphate is a 4-aminoquinoline antimalarial drug, which can inhibit the nucleic acid synthesis of Plasmodium cleavage, interfere with the growth and reproduction of Plasmodium, and has an efficient killing effect on Plasmodium intraerythrocytic cleavage.
Chloroquine phosphate has a strong binding to nucleoproteins, through its negatively charged 7-chloro group on the quinoline ring is close to the 2-amino group on the guanine of DNA, so that chloroquine is inserted between the two strands of the double helix of DNA. It forms a complex with DChemicalbookNA, thus preventing the replication of DNA and transcription of RNA. Chloroquine also inhibits phosphate incorporation into Plasmodium DNA and RNA, which interferes with Plasmodium reproduction due to reduced nucleic acid synthesis.

Application & Function

Chloroquine phosphate can be used for the treatment of chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum, P. interna and P. tris. It can also be used for suppressive prophylaxis of malaria symptoms. It is also used for the treatment of parenteral amebiasis, connective tissue disease, and photosensitive diseases (e.g. solar erythema).
