Tilmicosin is a macrolide antibiotic drug, it is the upgrade product of tylosin phosphate and specially used for veterinary. It is harmfulless, residue free, with strong effection and safety. It mainly cures for the respiratory disease that caused by mycoplasma, animal infective pleuropneumonia that caused by actinobacillus and pasteurella multocida and breast infection of lactational animals. The drug effect is 4 to 8 times than tylosin phosphate. It has the advantages of convenient application and less incompatibilities simultaneously.

Tilmicosin is a newer semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic for livestock and poultry by tylosin, the chemical name is 4A-O-de(2,6-dideoxy-3-C-methyl) -L-ribose-pyranhexyl)-20-deoxy-20-(3,5-dimethyl-1-piperidinyl)-[20(cis:trans)]tylosin, molecular formula C46H80N2O13, Molecular weight 869.15. The antibacterial spectrum of tilmicosin is similar to that of tylosin, but with enhanced activity against Pasteurella multocida and Pasteurella hemolytica. It was successfully developed in the 1980s and initially used the codename EL-870. The commonly used trade names are Pulmotil© and Micotil©, and the preparations include tilmicosin soluble powder, premix (20%), and injection. Approved in most European countries in 1990 and in the United States in 1992, and included in the US Pharmacopoeia. Some domestic companies have also been approved to produce tilmicosin. Due to its special antibacterial activity and pharmacokinetic characteristics, the drug has been approved for clinical use in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in cattle, goats, sheep, dairy cows, pigs, chickens and other animals. Especially for respiratory diseases of livestock and poultry, such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia, pasteurellosis and chicken mycosis, and the treatment of lactating animal mastitis.
