Superiority:

Eplerenone is a new type of selective aldosterone receptor antagonist. It was approved for clinical use by the National Food and Drug Administration in 2002. The pure product is white or off-white crystals. Its antagonistic effect on aldosterone is stronger than that of spirnolactone. The affinity with progesterone receptors is extremely low, the side effects are small, and it has a definite effect on the treatment of hypertension, heart failure and myocardial infarction, with fewer side effects and good tolerability. It is a good substitute for spirnolactone.
For severe hypertension that cannot be controlled by the combination of a variety of antihypertensive drugs, the addition of eplerenone can significantly reduce blood pressure, especially systolic blood pressure. Combined treatment with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) and β-receptor blockers can improve the quality of life and reduce mortality in patients with severe heart failure and myocardial infarction.
