It is white to yellowish-brown filamentous particle or powder, almost odorless and tasteless. It is insoluble in water and ether, slightly soluble in ethanol, and slowly soluble in sodium polyphosphate, sodium carbonate and the solution combined with calcium ion.

It can be used in food processing and pharmaceuticals. Low molecular calcium alginate is a new calcium source of calcium supplement food, which is easily digestive. 

 

Its bio-degradability and bio-compatibility is quite good. With its high mechanic strength, fine mass transmission performance, low bio-toxicity and easy to fixing operate, it can be used to prepare bio-adsorbent material.
