Lead acetate, also known as lead acetate, commonly known as lead sugar. Chemical formula (CH3COO)2Pb, Mr=325, usually refers to trihydrate, but also decahydrate and anhydrates.

Used for preparing various lead salts, antifouling coatings, water quality protectants, pigment fillers, paint desiccant, fiber dyes and heavy metal cyanide solvents.

Production methods

1. The lead oxide is reacted with acetic acid and dissolved in 80% hot acetic acid until it is dissolved into bubbles. Then the filtrate is filtered and evaporated to a relative density of 1.40 after adding a small amount of acetic acid. Cooling, filtration, drying, lead acetate. The purity of lead acetate in industrial products is generally more than 98%. After purification, 1% acetic acid solution can be used for recrystallization, or lead acetate trihydrate can be dissolved in water by hydrogen sulfide, so lead sulfide and other impurities are precipitated together, after filtration, add fluorescent gallium reagent (Co, Al, Cu and other composite agent) in the filtrate, add a small amount of activated carbon, and add EDTA sodium salt treatment, pure reagent grade product.

2. Dissolve lead oxide (II) in 50% acetic acid until saturated. Filtrate, add a little acetic acid to filtrate, evaporate to the relative density of 1.40 on water bath, stand, crystallize out. Suction filter, placed in the filtrate filter paper dry, pure. The product can absorb carbon dioxide, ammonia and other gases in the air to form carbonate or basic salt, which can be purified by recrystallization in 2% ~ 3% acetic acid solution.100g of lead acetate requires 100mL 2% ~ 3% acetic acid solution. After heating and dissolving, filter the insoluble material while hot. After cooling, the filtrate was crystallized, and the mother liquor was concentrated to half of its original volume. After cooling, a small amount of acetic acid was added.

3, dissolve lead oxide in hot acetic acid, after filtration, add acetic acid to the filtrate, evaporate to the relative density of 1.40, crystallize after cooling, dry, get pure lead acetate.
