Preparation of polyaspartic acid

There are generally two kinds of PASP synthesis.

(1) L-aspartic acid anhydrous thermal polymerization L-aspartic acid (L-ASP) is a white leaf crystalline powder, which exists in the nature of beet molasses, milk albumin, albumin, bovine cheese and other proteins. L-ASP can be produced by immobilized aspartase using fumaric acid as substrate. Aspartic acid is one of the few amino acids that can be homopolymerized by heating.

When heated to 350 ~ 400℃, in the presence of catalyst or no catalyst, aspartic acid can produce linear thermoplastic polycondensation product polysuccinimide. The random copolymer can be obtained by hydrolyzing polysuccinimide with alkali solution. And usually only has L  amino acid compared to natural protein, full of racemic with polymer. The reaction process is easy to control and repeatable. The conversion rate of monomer to polymer can reach more than 95%. The molecular weight of the polymer can be adjusted by adding catalyst to form melt phase during polymerization.

(2) maleic acid thermal polymerization of polysuccinimide can also be produced by the thermal polymerization of maleic acid and ammonia at 160℃, so that the relative molecular weight of the resulting polyaspartic acid is usually less than 2500.
