What's Arbutin？

Arbutin is an ideal whitening agent for whitening cosmetics. It is also known as hydroquinone glycoside. There are two types of optical isomers, alpha and beta. ß isomers are biologically active. It is white with yellowish powder at room temperature. Soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, propylene glycol and glycerol aqueous solution, no precipitation after dissolution. Insoluble in
chloroform, diethyl ether, petroleum ether, etc. Arbutin is often added to many skin lightening products. Arbutin is named for its presence in the rhododendron family of the genus Arbutin. Subsequently, it was found in the leaves of bilberry of Duzhong family, pear of Rosaceae (European pear, small mountain pear), and tiger grass of Tiger grass family, etc. After extraction, it is used as a drug and cosmetic additive.

Application

1. In medicine, it is used as a diuretic, an anti-infective drug for the urinary system, and also as a stabilizer for color photography development. It is used in cosmetics for whitening, freckle removal, and hair care.
2. A glycosylated hydroquinone for the study of melatonin biosynthesis and as an inhibitor for the identification, differentiation and characterization of tyrosinase. Arbutin is a glycosylated hydroquinone extracted from the bearberry plant. Arbutin is a known inhibitor of tyrosinase, which in turn prevents the formation of melanin. Arbutin is often used as a whitening agent in cosmetics.
