Erythritol is a zero-calorie, great-tasting bulk sweetener for a variety of sugar-free and reduced-calorie foods and beverages. Erythritol has been a part of the human diet for thousands of years and is found in fruits and other foods. Erythritol has high digestive tolerance and does not cause glycemic response, so it is suitable for diabetics, and it does not promote tooth decay. Erythritol is a polyol (sugar alcohol) that is naturally found in fruits such as pears, melons and grapes, but it can also be found in other foods such as mushrooms and in wine, soy sauce and cheese.
