Ethylene glycol monoallyl ether is a colorless transparent liquid with weak characteristic odor, easy to miscible with water, and weak oxidation when exposed to air for a long time. Due to the hydroxyl and double bonds contained in the molecular formula, it is a new type of environmentally friendly polymeric monomer and intermediate. Because of its high boiling point and low odor, it is suitable for the synthesis of hydroxy-containing functional group resin copolymer and silicone modified intermediate. It can replace allyl alcohol and has excellent performance. It is mainly used in the production of fluorocarbon resin, super absorbent resin, unsaturated polyester, light curing paint, water soluble paint, paint and plastic additives, polyurethane foam stabilizer, battery and solid polymer electrolyte for chromium plating. At present, the synthesis process of ethylene glycol monoallyl ether has the following two ways: 1) etherification sealing method. The allyl chloride was hydroxyl etherized with ethylene glycol under alkaline condition, and then purified by distillation. This method will produce a large amount of inorganic salts, and the excessive allyl chloride is difficult to recover, which is easy to pollute the environment. 2) Polymerization method. Propylene alcohol and ethylene oxide were ring-opening polymerized under basic catalyst and then purified by distillation. This method is easy to produce by-product polyethylene glycol and ethylene oxide polymerization degree above 1 allyl polyethylene glycol ether.

Application

Ethylene glycol monoallyl ether, as a co-monomer of fluorine-fluorocarbon resin, can adjust the hardness of the coating film and give the hydrophilicity of the fluorinated resin. With the development of fluorine coatings, ethylene glycol monoallyl ether as a reactive diluent has been widely used.
