Manganese dioxide, also known as "manganese peroxide", "black manganese oxide", oxide of four manganese, chemical formula is MnO2, fHm(298K)=-520.71kJ/mol, melting point 847ºC, density 5.026g/cm3, natural products exist in pyrolusite, black diamond crystal or black brown powder, with tetrahedron crystal, An amphoteric oxide of manganese insoluble in water and nitric acid. Manganese sulfate is formed by releasing oxygen in hot concentrated sulfuric acid. It is chlorinated to form manganese chloride. Eutectic with caustic alkali and oxidant, release carbon dioxide to form permanganate. Manganese dioxide is a strong oxidizing agent, which causes combustion and explosion by friction or co-heat with organic matter or other oxidizing substances (such as sulfur, sulfide, phosphating, etc.). The product is reductive when acted with a strong oxidant. In air, MnO2 is heated to Mn2O3 above 480ºC and Mn3O4 above 900ºC. Widely used in steelmaking, glass, ceramics, dry batteries and so on.
