A protein hormone that regulates gonadal function. It is mainly derived from the anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) and the placenta of mammals. In 1920, it was first discovered in the anterior pituitary of animals by the German scholar Zong Dek (B.Zondek), and in 1931, it was classified and named by H.L. Feifold.

 

Pituitary gonadotropins include:

① luteinizing hormone, also known as luteinizing hormone (LH). It can promote ovulation and luteum formation in the mature follicles of the ovary, and promote progesterone secretion of the luteum and promote the proliferation of testicular interstitial cells and the secretion of Chemicalbook androgens, so it is also known as interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH).

② Prolactin (PRI), also known as luteinizing secretin (LTH). It can promote progesterone secretion of the luteum, stimulate mammary gland development and lactation, and promote testosterone secretion.

Placental gonadotropins include:

①(human) chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which comes from the primate placental chorionic membrane, and its main function is similar to that of pituitary luteinizing hormone;

② Pregnant horse serum gonadotropin (PMSG), from the equine placenta, the main role is similar to pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone, with luteinizing effect.
