Physical and Chemical Properties | This product is white or light yellow crystalline powder; Odorless, bitter taste. It is soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform and ether, and the aqueous solution is relatively stable. It should be stored in a container protected from light. |
Overview | Arecoline is an alkaloid in the seeds of the plant areca nut, and its hydrobromide is commonly used clinically [1]. White crystalline powder, odorless, bitter, poisonous, deteriorated in case of light. Melting point 170- 171 ℃. Soluble in water and ethanol. It is obtained by the reaction of arecoline with hydrobromic acid ethanol solution. Intestinal insect repellent drugs are mostly used for veterinary treatment [2]. figure 1 arecoline hydrobromide tablets |
research on antithrombotic effect | research on antithrombotic and thrombolytic effects of arecoline hydrobromide on thrombus in vivo and in vitro. Methods: The thrombolytic effect of arecoline hydrobromide in vitro was investigated by the dissolution of human blood clots and human platelet plasma clots in vitro. The anti-thrombotic effect of arecoline hydrobromide in vivo was investigated by the model of carrageenan-induced tail vein thrombosis in mice. Results: Arecoline hydrobromide can accelerate the dissolution of human blood clots and platelet plasma clots in vitro, and has a dose-dependent effect of ; it has the effect of anti-carrageenan-induced tail vein thrombosis in mice. Conclusion: Hydrobromic acid arecoline has antithrombotic effect in vivo and in vitro. |
pharmacological action | arecoline hydrobromide has a strong paralyzing effect on tapeworm muscles, causing the worm body to lose the ability to cling to the intestinal wall. in addition, the muscarinic effect of the drug on the host strengthens intestinal peristalsis and increases secretion of digestive glands, which is conducive to the rapid elimination of paralytic worms. This product is effective for all tapeworms in dogs. It can also repel taenia, polycephalus and Echinococcus granulosus. It also has an repellent effect on avian tapeworms. |
clinical application | is mainly used for taeniasis common in dogs and poultry. |
usage and dosage | oral administration: one dose, per kilogram of body weight, 1.5-2 mg for dogs, 3 mg for chickens, 1-2 mg for ducks and geese. |
adverse reactions and poisoning rescue | (1) the use of normal dose of arecoline hydrobromide has less adverse reactions to dogs, and vomiting, diarrhea, secondary coma and convulsion can obviously occur when overdose. The general poisoning dose can be as much as 8 times the therapeutic dose. (2) This product is not safe for cats, and it can make their bronchi secrete a large amount of mucus and cause cats to suffocate and die. (3) atropine can detoxify and relieve symptoms of this product. |
precautions | (1) dogs should fast for 12 hours before medication. if they still do not defecate 2 hours after medication, they should be taken with saline to accelerate the elimination of paralysis. (2) chickens have strong tolerance to this product, followed by ducks and geese, equine animals are more sensitive, and cats are the most sensitive, so it is advisable not to use it. (3) Due to the high toxicity of this product, it has been banned in the United States. |
drug combination | atropine: it can detoxify arecoline and relieve symptoms, and can be used to rescue arecoline poisoning. Choline-like drugs such as pilocarpine: the combination of the two can enhance the toxicity. Pumpkin seeds: The combination of arecoline and pumpkin seeds can repel naked head tapeworm. |
