The direct acidification method of pyrolusite powder (i.e., the two ore method), the calcination of pyrolusite into manganese oxide and then acidification, reduces the calcination process, greatly saves the equipment investment, reduces the environmental pollution, and reduces the cost. Products are rose-colored triangular crystal rhombohedral or amorphous bright white brown powder. Specific gravity 3.125, almost insoluble in water, but slightly soluble in water containing CO2. Soluble in dilute inorganic acid, slightly soluble in common organic acid salts, insoluble in liquid ammonia. Stable in dry air, easily oxidized when wet, forming manganese trioxide and gradually turning black, CO2 is liberated when heated, and hydrolyzed when azeotrope with water. In boiling potassium hydroxide, manganese hydroxide is formed. Widely used in telecommunications equipment as ferrite raw materials, desulfurization catalyst, enamel pigment, varnish drying agent, manganese salt and catalyst manufacturing raw materials.
