Sodium hydroxyethyl sulfonate is a kind of organic salt, which is an important intermediate in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and daily chemicals. The synthesis principle is the condensation reaction of sodium bisulfite and ethylene oxide to produce sodium hydroxyethyl sulfonate.

Purification method:
Firstly, the qualified fresh sodium bisulfite was added to the preparation kettle, and 35wt % aqueous solution was prepared with distilled water at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The prepared sodium bisulfite solution of 2857Kg(concentration 35wt %) was sent to the ethoxylation reactor, and after nitrogen replacement and heating operation, ethylene oxide was added at 90℃ to start the reaction, the control temperature was 90 ~ 100℃, and the pressure was 0 ~ 0.1MPag(gauge pressure).

After adding 500Kg of ethylene oxide, curing at 90 ~ 100℃ for 30 minutes, discharge. The crude product (concentration 40 ~ 45wt %) synthesized in the previous step is sent to the double-effect continuous evaporation recrystallizer, which is operated in the way of continuous feed and intermittent discharge, that is, the dilute solution advanced single-effect evaporator, after initial concentration, the concentration reaches 55 ~ 60wt %, and the concentrated liquid is fed into the two-effect evaporator, and further concentrated and evaporated to 72 ~ 75wt %. Then the concentrated liquid enters the continuous crystallizer, and is cooled to 20 ~ 40℃ at a uniform speed after crystallization, the crystal slurry enters the centrifuge for centrifuge separation, the solid enters the next process, and the mother liquid returns to the two-effect evaporator to continue to participate in evaporation and concentration.

When the ethylene glycol content of the product reaches less than 0.1% wt, it is regarded as qualified, and the purity of the product is greater than 99.5wt % through analysis and detection. A small amount of non-crystallizable residual liquid is extracted with 3 times the solvent, the extraction agent used is anhydrous ethanol, sodium hydroxyethyl sulfonate products are precipited in anhydrous ethanol, a small amount of water and organic impurities, such as ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, hydroxyethyl sulfonate will enter the liquid phase ethanol, and then enter the centrifuge separation. Finally, the crystal is dried at 120℃ in a disc dryer to remove a small amount of residual solvent impurities and water in the product. The extraction agent used is ethanol recycled and reused. The extractant ethanol can be distilled and recovered.
