Deuteroacetonitrile is an organic solvent that can be used as an aprotic solvent for organic reactions. Deuterated acetonitrile is also an organic solvent used in chromatographic techniques in nuclear magnetic resonance.

Deuterated acetonitrile is colorless liquid at room temperature and pressure. During organic synthesis and conversion, the hydrogen atoms on the methyl group in the structure of deuterated acetonitrile have a certain acidity, and the corresponding carbanion can be extracted under the action of a strong base, and then a series of nucleophilic attack reactions are carried out. In addition, the unsaturated carbon-nitrogen triple bond in the cyanogroup structure can react with various nucleophiles to transform into various active functional groups, including ester groups, amides and so on.
