Description

Sunifiram is an AMPA receptor agonist that enhances signaling from AMPA receptors in the brain, which are generally thought to be key players associated with learning and memory. By enhancing the function of AMPA receptors, Sunifiram is thought to improve the brain's ability to learn and remember, while also improving focus and mental energy. Additionally it works by stimulating the activity of glutamate receptors and increasing the production and release of the "learning neurotransmitter" acetylcholine.  

Sunifiram acts primarily as an ampa factor, which means it binds to AMPA-type glutamate receptors in the brain after crossing the blood-brain barrier.  ‍This stimulates the production of glutamate, an important neurotransmitter critical to synaptic plasticity, or the ability of nerve synapses to respond to increases or decreases in activity. Glutamate levels are particularly important in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that plays a major role in spatial navigation and memory formation and storage, and sufficient levels of glutamate are essential for long-term potentiation, or lasting improvement, of signal strength between neurons very important.

 ‍Most of sunifiram's cognitive-enhancing abilities are ultimately achieved by increasing the strength of neural signals in this part of the brain.
