Chemical formula: C3H8O2
Appearance
Colorless viscous stable water-absorbing liquid, almost tasteless, odorless, flammable, low toxicity. It is miscible with water, ethanol and various organic solvents. Boiling point 187.3℃. Melting point -60 ℃. The relative density is 1.0381. Refractive index 1.4326. Surface tension (20℃)38mNm. Viscosity (20℃) 60.5mPa-s. Specific heat capacity (20℃)2.49kj/(kg. ° C). Heat of vaporization (101.3kPa)7Ukj/kg. Heat of combustion (25℃) 1824.OkJ /mol. Flash point (open cup) 99℃. Spontaneous ignition point 415.5℃. Critical temperature 352℃. Critical pressure 6.lMPa.
Preparation
The direct water hydrolysis of propylene oxide is a pressurized non-catalytic hydrolysis method. It is prepared by direct hydration of propylene oxide and water at 150 N160℃, 0.78 ~ 0.98MPa pressure, and the reaction product is evaporated and rectified to obtain the finished product.
The indirect aqueous process of propylene oxide is prepared by the indirect aqueous synthesis of propylene oxide and water with sulfuric acid as catalyst. The equation is the same as above.
Direct catalytic oxidation of propylene.
Use
It is the raw material of unsaturated polyester resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, and also the raw material of plasticizer, surfactant, emulsifier and demulsifier. In the food industry, it is used as a solvent for flavor, food coloring, tobacco wetting agent, anti-mildew agent and fruit ripening preservative, drug excipient, etc. It can also be used as antifreeze, heat carrier and food machinery lubricant.
Security
Toxicity and irritants are minimal, and no victims have been identified to date. Rats were injected intravenously and intraperitoneally with LD50 7000-8000mg /kg and orally with LD502800mg/kg. However, it has also been reported that when added to food and drink in high doses in one sitting, there is a risk of causing fatal sleepiness and kidney disorders.
Although this product does not spontaneously ignite, it is flammable. Long-term storage does not deteriorate, but the opening absorbs moisture. Storage and transportation containers should be made of galvanized iron drums, aluminum or stainless steel. Storage and transportation in accordance with the general provisions of low toxic chemicals.
