Synopsis

Flibanserin modestly improved sexual function (10% more than placebo) primarily in premenopausal women with sexual desire disorder (HSDD), who had significantly reduced interest in sex. For men, flibanserin is different from Sildenafil (Vergon), which is taken before need (before sex) and works by increasing blood flow to the penis. Flibanserin must be taken daily and it acts on the regulatory areas of the brain. Flibanserin has serious potential side effects including very low blood pressure, fainting, nausea and more. These risks are increased and made worse if women consume alcohol or take birth control pills.

 

Indications

that flibanserin has an affinity for 5-HT1A and 5-HT2 receptors suggest that it is a promising therapeutic agent for a variety of conditions, such as depression, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, sexual and psychiatric disorders, and age-related memory disorders.

 

Uses

Flibanserin is an agonist of the serotonin 5HT1A receptor and an antagonist of the 5-HT2A receptor. Binding dopamine receptors, Ki values range from 4 to 24nM. It's used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women.
