Description
This product is the calcium salt of L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which belongs to the folate family of vitamins (vitamin B9, folic acid), it is a coenzyme form of folic acid. Calcium l-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-mthf) is the naturally occurring salt-forming methyl derivative form of folic acid. 5-mthf is also known as levomethylfolate, which is the most biologically active and functional form of folic acid, and is more readily absorbed than regular folic acid.

Function

L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate is the most biologically active and functional form of folic acid, the only way in which folic acid participates in physiological metabolism, and the only form of folic acid present in plasma and cellular free folic acid that appears in animals. It is mainly used as an active ingredient in pharmaceuticals and as a food additive, and has the potential to prevent foetal neural tube defects, atherosclerosis, to treat megaloblastic anaemia, to enhance the therapeutic effect of pyrimidines fluoride, and to treat autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Active folic acid also has the effect of combating anaemia, preventing cardiovascular disease and regulating immunity.
