Calcium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)?, commonly known as slaked lime or hydrated lime. It is a white, powdered solid. When water is added, it separates into two layers. The upper aqueous solution is called clear limewater, and the lower suspension is called lime milk or lime slurry. The clear limewater in the upper layer can be used to test for carbon dioxide, and the turbid lime milk in the lower layer is a building material. Calcium hydroxide is a strong alkali, with antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and has a corrosive effect on skin and fabric. Calcium hydroxide has a wide range of industrial applications. It is a commonly used building material and is also used as a fungicide and chemical raw material, etc.
